Although you'll find no shortage of cafes in Seoul offering a good cup of coffee, it's rather rare to find a place that focuses primarily on teas. If you're searching for more than the run-of-the-mill teas you'll find at most coffee shops, Tea for Two in Jongak won't leave you disappointed.

M Pub features a stage to accommodate live music performances

Now a permanent venue at the top of Yeongdeungpo’s Times Square shopping mall complex is M Pub. Aptly named after it’s apparent sponsor Mnet, which keeps track of music rankings in Korea and also heads up music television programs nationwide. The M Pub Project is supposed to be, as they clearly state on their menu, a place for “eating, drinking (and) playing” which pretty much epitomizes the essence of Seoul Site! ^^

Bands and other acts perform at M Pub regularly

M Pub takes a very literal meaning of each, and when it comes to “playing” they obviously mean it in the musical sense. Live bands come and perform at M Pub frequently and it really is a nice touch to an already nice venue.

The main indoor entrance of M Pub

Another large table setup adjacent to the outdoor patio

The apple beer was particularly interesting. An actual slice of apple ends up inside your beer

A lot of thought was put into the interior design here

If you end up dropping by the Yeongdeungpo Times Square to go shopping, M Pub is a nice place to relax. There is also an open garden area just above the pub itself, and as half of the bar is an open patio, it’s truly a chill place to enjoy yourself while you enjoy some food and drink (as long as the weather is nice). It’s important to note however, that they don’t serve full on meals until after 5pm. Although they offer some lighter food before then, if you’re planning on having more than just a coffee or a beer there early on, you might want to consider getting food at another restaurant beforehand. Luckily at Yeongeungpo Times Square there are plenty of other nice restaurants so you won’t be short of options.

Cafe aA in the aA Design Museum building is located in Hongdae closer to Sangsu Station. One of the first things you’ll notice about this cafe is the high ceilings found in both indoors and on the patio. As a self-branded ‘design cafe’ they have obviously put a lot of thought into the interior design. Another interesting thing about this place is the variety of chairs and tables to be found. This is definitely not your cookie-cutter cafe and every space has a different feel to it, although they somehow all fit together in spite of their variety.

High ceilings continue outside on the patio

The main room houses an interesting cluster of lanterns in the center of the ceiling which I thought were particularly beautiful.

The cafe abounds with interesting spaces to lounge

Cold and delicious ice cocoa and organic plum iced tea

Another huge space in the basement

There are other spaces in the basement which are generally not for use. Some are used as art installations and the building itself is much larger than just the cafe found on the first floor. If you go to their website (info at the bottom of this page) you can see the other spaces they have for galleries and events.

Absolutely beautiful brownies and cake!

There aren’t a huge amount of food items on the menu however they do offer a small assortment of quality cakes and other confectioneries.

If you’re able to make it to the aA cafe on a nice day or night, it’s great to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while enjoying some sun or fresh air outdoors on the patio. The outdoor seating area is just about as large as the indoor seating so if you’re looking to sit on the patio you’ll probably be able to find a seat in most situations.

Bob's Barbie
Hours: till late
Location: Hongdae front gate

Bob's Barbie is a tiny street food stand right outside the front gate of Hongik University and they have the best meat pies around! If you've been dying to have your shepherd's pie then this is the place to get it! Just make sure you get there early enough, often the meat pies sell out well before the store is closed. If you aren't able to get your hands on one of those though, their 'black dog' is quite good too and is recommended to try even if you were just going for the meat pies.
