Inca: Son of the Sun
The word `Inca’ meant “Son of the Sun” and was a title originally held only by the king. Gold, which sparkles even during the moonlight night, thus became their symbol. Such were the beliefs and the vision of the universe held by the people who lived on the other side of the world, in what is now South America, some 500 years ago.
This special exhibition focuses on not only the Inca Empire, but also on the ancient Andean civilization, to which the Incas claim their roots. Nine Peruvian museums, including the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru, share 351 relics.
Particularly notable are treasures from the tomb of the Lord of Sipan, located in Chiclayo, northern Peru. Cast in brilliant gold, they belonged to a Moche king who ruled some 1,700 years ago. Other fascinating exhibits include the secrecy of mystical Nazca lines and Machu Picchu, also known as the castle in the air.
Visitors are invited to explore the ancient Peruvian civilization, from the Chavin culture to the age of the Incas, and become immersed in an exotic and mysterious, yet strikingly scientific, world.
